Papa Gino's Brings Healthier Lunch Choices to Cafeterias with School Smart Pizza Program

Papa Gino's Whole Wheat School Smart Pizza Meets Rigid 2014 USDA Nutritional Requirements and Helps School Systems Qualify for USDA Certification and Credits

DEDHAM, Mass., (October 16, 2013) – After testing the initiative in several school systems, Papa Gino’s has officially launched its School Smart Pizza Program. Inspired by the national campaign for healthier school lunches, Papa Gino’s School Smart Pizza already meets the more rigid national USDA school lunch requirements which will be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year.   Papa Gino’s provides large cheese and pepperoni smart pizzas that are made with 100 percent whole grain-rich products, are trans-fat-free and meet national requirements or sodium, calories, saturated fat, grains and whole grains.

“Papa Gino’s days are a favorite with students in our district.  The kids really like the new wheat pizza, often buying an extra slice with their lunch.  Papa Gino’s new pizza is tasty, eye appealing and a high quality product,” said Beth Nichols, Shrewsbury Public School.

Papa Gino’s 14-inch School Smart Pizza has 4 grams of fat and provides 12 percent of a student’s daily fiber per slice.  At 210 calories per slice, school cafeteria can offer two slices per student and remain within the recommended calories and fat requirements.

“Papa Gino’s created a whole grain rich dough that meets and exceeds the USDA school nutrition requirements, while giving children the high-quality, flavor-rich pizza they crave,” said Andre Fuehr, Executive Chef of Papa Gino’s Pizzeria.  “By serving our School Smart pizza, school systems can comply with the USDA standards and receive credits for their lunch program and put those savings toward new equipment purchases or services.”

Papa Gino’s School Smart pizza is competitively priced and falls in line with Papa Gino’s other school lunch products, including sandwiches, salads and pastas.  Papa Gino’s school lunch items are in more than 125 school cafeterias throughout New England.  For more information about Papa Gino’s School Smart Pizza and other lunch menu items, visit www.papaginos.com.
